A tragedy in New Delhi has triggered Delhi High Court red flag mushrooming of salons involved in hair transplant surgeries by untrained technicians without any medical supervision.

In his observation, Justice Anoop Kumar Mendiratta stated that these salons are working in complete defiance of standard protocols and medical ethics. The court directed the Centre and Delhi government to ensure that such practices were controlled, awareness spread amongst people about the fatal hazards associated with these procedures if done in absence of medical supervision and standard medical protocols were devised at the national level.

The tragedy that followed the above directive was of a 35-year-old man, who underwent hair transplantation at a salon in Rohini, New Delhi. The victim, who paid INR 30, 000 for the procedure, developed a painful scalp followed by swelling on the face and shoulders and eventually passed away during the course of treatment at a hospital.
